Low back pain (LBP) continues to represent the leading musculoskeletal cause of disability in the United States and is the most frequently reported condition for which people receive outpatient physical therapy.[1-4] The majority of literature that describes the physical therapist's role in the care of these individuals is based on the premise that identifying and correcting physical impairments will favorably affect the patient's disability.[5-10] This approach is based on the classic biomedical model of disease, which infers a direct positive correlation among pathology, pain, impairment, functional limitation, and disability.[11-13] In certain individuals with LBP, ...
