AUGUSTA, Ga. _ Charlotte business executive Bill Simms, a part-owner of the NFL's expansion Carolina Panthers, has become the second African-American member of Augusta National Golf Club, home of the Masters golf tournament.
Simms, president of TransAmerica Life Co. Reinsurance Division, was installed as a member last fall, he said.
``I'm a golfer and it's golfing paradise,'' said Simms, who has been to Augusta National ``six or seven times'' since joining the club.
Becoming the second African-American member in Augusta National's 62-year history (the first was Ron Townsend in 1990) brings an undeniable significance.
