Aug. 23--In an era of formulaic Hollywood movies, "The Nanny Diaries" stands apart -- it's a highly stylized and very satisfying comic take on child rearing practices among the rich and aimless in Manhattan.
Based on the best-selling novel/expose by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus, the film is written and directed by another team, Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman, who made the striking 2003 comedy "American Splendor" about the life of comic book artist Harvey Pekar.
Pulcini and Springer Berman have taken huge chances in bringing "The Nanny Diaries" to the screen.
