Aug. 23--Two East Valley elementary schools are participating in a physical education pilot program that will ultimately help the state make elementary school physical activity requirements.
Kyrene de las Lomas Elementary School in Ahwatukee Foothills and Guerrero Elementary School in Mesa were two of four schools chosen to receive the PE Pilot Grant, awarded by the Arizona Department of Education. Lomas will receive $128,214, and Guerrero will get $97,488.
The schools will spend a year participating in increased physical education and wellness programs outlined in their grant proposals.
