Aug. 24--Across Dallas, garbage is sitting on sidewalks until after dark and bulk trash pickup is being delayed for days because the city has fewer sanitation trucks on the streets than it needs.
Since late March, portions of the city's rear-loading garbage truck and brush truck fleet have been sidelined because a private contractor, Serco North America, has fallen behind in repairing equipment, city officials say.
City Manager Mary Suhm said her staff is working with Serco to resolve the issue. But she said the problem needs to be solved soon.
