Aug. 23--After three years of work, a bill protecting volunteer drivers' insurance rights was signed into law by Gov. John Lynch at the Senior Center Wednesday.
The bill first came about as a result of a series of forums held in Sullivan County to address transportation issues. Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Nick Toumpas attended the meetings and saw firsthand the need for help, as did Sullivan County Senior Advocates Director Bunny Perry.
"Bunny came to me and said, can you get something done to help us?" said delegation member Beverly Rodeschin, R-Newport.
