Aug. 24--When The Nanny Diaries landed in bookstores in spring of 2002, the reaction was terrified and bloodcurdling -- the Upper East Side's goriest nightmare realized. Here it was, at long last, The Bonfire of the Vuitton-ities, the saga of Marie Antoinette set in Whole Foods. The professional peasants who watch their little Noahs and Emmas, who suffer their tantrums and tend to their soy flakes, had arrived at the doorman, eyes blazing, pitchforks and torches tucked into their fanny packs. From the Guggenheim to First Avenue, bony hands were wrung and confidentiality agreements struck. (The horror, the horror...)
