Windber (Pa.) Medical Center broke its decade-long affiliation with Conemaugh Health System, officials said last week, which is a gamble that the 57-bed hospital will remain competitive as its former partner grows more centralized.
The split, effective July 1, was announced in a joint statement. The deal ended months of negotiations that followed a February vote by Windber's governing board to reject Conemaugh's push for a governance overhaul and greater integration among its four Pennsylvania hospitals.
