Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are an important concern and are disproportionately more common among young adults than among the general adult population. Nearly 3 million young adults (1 out of 6) are infected with an STI annually, giving them the highest STI rate among every sexually active age group. (1) Eighty-six percent of all STIs in the United States occur among those aged 15 to 29 years, and by the age of 21 years, 1 of 5 people have been treated for an STI. (2)
