At Smitten Kitten, a feminist-owned sex toy shop in Minneapolis, the owners' philosophy is twofold: They want to put the Midwest on the map when it comes to sex, and they want to "put our pussy where our politics are."
Opened in 2003 in south Minneapolis, the Kitten is one of the few progressive or feminist sex toy stores in the Midwest (others include A Woman's Touch in Milwaukee and Early to Bed in Chicago). It's the brainchild of three graduates of the women's studies program at nearby Minnesota State University who wanted vocations, not just jobs, and the result was a sex toy store that they say is unlike any other in the world.
