FLORENCE - Pesky sand blocking your sublime view of the Pacific Ocean?
Just doze it.
That was Eugene retiree Paul Loepp's solution to the lump of beachgrass-covered sand that stood between his vacation home and the breaking surf, just south of Driftwood Shores on one of Florence's few oceanfront lots. He hired a local excavator last month and knocked the dune over, carving a bite out of this stretch of dunes big enough to park the New Carissa shipwreck and displacing 2,000 cubic yards of sand.
The problem? Loepp altered a state-owned dune, and he did so without a permit. His neighbors are ...
