Aug. 25--NORMAN, Okla. -- As a child, Oklahoma offensive lineman Brian Simmons feared taking off his shoes and would rarely venture to public pools.
The few times he did brave the pools while growing up in North Carolina, he walked away with his feelings hurt. Simmons would jump into the water, and the other children would quickly get out.
"They would be like, 'Oh, no, get out of the pool,' " Simmons said. "They would act like I had a disease. That's when I did realize something was wrong and different about me."
Simmons, a sophomore who might start at right guard, was born with clubfoot deformity of both feet. ...
