Right about now, in that surreal realm known as TV Critic Land, the always-dependable trend piece is being deployed. Everywhere you turn, my couch-bound colleagues are meticulously breaking down the fall lineups and trying to extract what's in vogue.
They're writing stories about the proliferation of sci-fi and fantasy themes and the rise of butt-kicking heroines. They're pointing out how several new shows are pegged to the rich and powerful, and they're shining the spotlight on an unprecedented British invasion among the acting ranks.
All this is fine and well, but these clueless scribes are overlooking an obvious trend ...
