Aug. 28--Gov. Eliot Spitzer declined to take sides yesterday on whether the Metropolitan Transportation Authority should go ahead with its planned December vote to raise fares, but he warned against connecting the proposed increases to a city congestion pricing plan.
Revenues from congestion pricing are not likely to be great enough or soon enough to solve all of the MTA's fiscal woes, the governor said.
"Simply saying, 'We've got congestion pricing, therefore no fare increase' [is] bad logic, bad facts," Spitzer said. "Don't fall into that trap."
