During August, the European Commission approved several proposed acquisitions or mergers, examined under the EU Mergers Regulation. These included the acquisition of:
- certain production facilities of Tate & Lyle (UK, sweeteners) by French company Syral
- joint control of Alstom Rail Service (Switzerland) by Alstom Schienenfahrzeuge AG of Switzerland
- joint control of Scandlines AG (Germany, ferry transport services) by the Allianz Group (Germany, banking and insurances) and 3i Group plc
- sole control of BHS Holdings Ltd (UK, hospital services) by Rozier Acquisitions Ltd (UK)
