Article: Electric Fuel zinc-air battery. (battery developed for electric automobiles that has the performance of a gasoline-powered vehicle)

Electric Fuel has developed a refuelable zinc-air battery that enables an electric car to reach comparable distances and speeds as a "regular" car. With specific energy of more than 200 Wh/kg, the battery delivers as much as eight times the energy of a leadacid traction battery, and more than twice the energy of the nearest advanced-battery competitor. Like conventional batteries, Electric Fuel's product uses metal cathode -- a zinc alloy. But instead of a liquid or gel electrolyte, the zinc-air battery takes in oxygen from the atmosphere to trigger its power-generating chemical process.
