NEW YORK _ Luggage can disappear at airports like socks in the dryer, and missing bags can wreck a vacation or a business trip.
In April alone, 336,732 pieces of luggage were reported lost, delayed or mishandled by the country's 20 largest airlines, according to Air Travel Consumer Report, published by the U.S. Department of Transportation. One year earlier, the number was 271,389. For airline passengers, the chances of experiencing some type of luggage-related problem is about 6.32 in 1,000.
Jeff Jones, a 30ish strategy director for Microsoft's security unit, said his bags have been lost or delayed several times.
