Aug. 31--HARLINGEN -- Even Manny Gomez, the intense and fiery first-year head coach of the Harlingen Cardinals, gets first game jitters.
Gomez leads the Cards against the Los Fresnos Falcons tonight in the Valley Morning Star's Game of the Week. It's Gomez's 13th season as a coach at Harlingen and his 16th overall with the Cardinals as a player or coach.
But it's the first time Gomez will lead the charge onto Boggus Stadium as the head coach.
And Gomez is the first to admit that he might not be able to sleep tonight.
