MOSCOW, Russin--Today, the mood of this vast country seems almost as gloomy and dark as the winter snow clouds that sweep across Siberia. Last year was a time of troubles for millions of Russians plagued by growing poverty, rising crime, and political turmoil. Many now look toward the new year without much hope that things will get better.
One bright light for Russia may be the visit this week of President Clinton. The U.S. president is scheduled to fly into Moscow this Wednesday (Jan. 12) for three days of talks with Russian president Boris Yeltsin.
