The oeuvre that R.B. Kitaj has produced over the past 30-plus years is bewilderingly complex, contradictory and disjunctive. He has always been driven by subject matter: his themes have ranged from the great historical, social, political and moral issues of our time to the vicissitudes of his own sex life.
