SCOTLAND may lay claim as the birthplace of golf, but another remote mountainous country with a wonderful coastline is now the hot-spot for those aiming to sharpen their game - Slovenia. The country's oldest golf club, at Bled, dates back to 1937, and was built for the then Yugoslav king, who had a summer residence nearby.
It was abandoned during World War II and not reopened until 1972, when it was redesigned by renowned British architect Donald Harradine. Today Bled has 27 holes in all - the 18 hole King's Course and the nine hole Lake Course.
