Sep. 1--Buzzi Unicem Cement, previously known as Hercules Cement Co., must pay the state Department of Environmental Protection a $174,604 fine for exceeding sulfur emission limits for 15 months between 2004 and 2006, the DEP announced Friday.
The company's plant, at the intersection of Routes 33 and 191 in Stockertown, alerted DEP in March 2006 after noticing a glitch in its emissions tracking software, Dan Nugent, vice president of environmental affairs, said Friday.
