JOHN Gormley took the ministerial Prius on a roundtrip down to Clonmelyesterday to cut the ribbon on a new 'carbon neutral' Bulmers plant. Evenbefore arriving, he hailed the initiative as a model for the rest of Irishbusiness to follow. Rarely has government been so taken in by such dubiouscorporate spin.
The 'new carbon neutral building', in the words of Environment MinisterGormley's press release, operationally will be nothing of the sort. If theimpression that Bulmers has somehow managed to build a plant responsible for nooffset emissions seems too good to be true, that's because it is.
