Sep. 1--Northwest Allen County Schools teacher Karin Huttsell was recently recognized as an Unsung Hero by ING financial services company.
Huttsell, who teaches at Hickory Center Elementary School, was one of 100 teachers honored for innovative contributions to education. Huttsell uses a technique called "Rub-a-dub-dub, Science in a Tub" to make learning more hands-on for her students.
It includes items such as rock samples, prisms, sand, soil samples and magnifying glasses to help students learn more about science. Huttsell plans to develop the tubs and share them with other teachers.
