Fire! A wave of flames roars across a dry grassland in central Florida. Land animals are in danger! More danger threatens from overhead. Hungry hawks and shrikes are snatching up meals of fleeing mice, grasshoppers, and frogs.
Many land animals know to go underground, away from the danger. But where? Some of the animals see a bare, sandy mound nearby. The mound has a wide, dark hole at its center. A burrow!
Zoom! Snakes slither inside. Frogs and rabbits hop right in. An armadillo, a family of raccoons, and many mice race in as well. So do a huge number of beetles, crickets, and other small creatures.
Luckily, there's plenty of room for everyone ...
