Sep. 4--A state legislative committee estimated last week that as many as a tenth of the inmates in state jails and prisons are illegal immigrants. But some jail administrators and members of the Hispanic community say those statistics -- released the day before the announcement of a Republican legislative proposal that would crack down on illegal immigrants in jail -- are inflated.
