Sep. 4--Mike Souza is playing for love of the game. Just so happens his life parallels a John Grisham character playing for pizza. A 2000 graduate of North Monterey County High School, Souza is the starting quarterback for the Parma Panthers, an American football team in Italy -- about the level of Division III college football, he said.
Souza made his way there in 2006 after stints at Hartnell College, Illinois State University and the Canadian Football League.
