Jimmy Clausen spent most of his debut day last weekend at Notre Dame Stadium trolling the sideline with helmet in hand as the No. 3 quarterback.
He won't be hanging out on the sideline nearly as long on Saturday.
In three days, Clausen has jumped from No. 3 to No. 1 on the depth chart, with coach Charlie Weis handing the heavy reins of the Irish quarterback spot to the towheaded freshman from the West Coast. Clausen's first starting job for Notre Dame takes place in the anticipated matchup at No. 14 Penn State on Saturday.
"I think he gives us the best chance of winning," Weis said Tuesday.
