Sep. 5--BOSTON -- Josh Beckett just kept going Tuesday -- kept going after a long home run by Matt Stairs, kept going well after 100 pitches, kept going the few times where he had to tip-toe out of a potential jam.
Finally, in the eighth inning, he reared back with one more pitch -- his 117th, one shy of a season-high -- and struck out Alex Rios with a fastball on the outside corner. Beckett walked off, his work over after eight innings, and Jonathan Papelbon closed out the Red Sox's 5-3 victory over the Blue Jays before 36,839 at Fenway Park.
