Sep. 5--A group trying to build a visitation center in Austin for troubled families is seeking a $200,000 grant from Mower County to help buy a site and pay for construction expenses.

The Mower County Visitation Center Planning Consortium, which has been meeting for more than a year, on Tuesday formally requested the money to buy part of the former Downtown Motel property in southeast Austin and help complete construction of a facility there by July 2008.

County board members are expected to make a decision on the request at their meeting Sept. 11 to meet the group's Sept. 15 deadline.
