Colorado's 2005-06 high school graduation rate, calculated under a new, tougher formula, dropped to 74.1 percent, the Colorado Department of Education reported Wednesday.
The 2004-2005 statewide graduation rate was 80.1 percent.
Under the new formula, which was passed in 2005, students who leave school to pursue GEDs are not counted as graduates, but as "completers," which has the effect of reducing the graduation rate.
Officials welcomed Wednesday's news.
