Sep. 6--When that summer sun bears down on them, many south Texans turn to bottled water. "I don't like Victoria water," homemaker Ann Weber, 54, said. She prefers her well water, but buys bottled water when she's on the go.
In addition to quenching their thirst, however, bottled water lovers are filling up landfills at an alarming rate. Nationally, only one in five plastic bottles reach a recycling bin, meaning billions of them end up in landfills every year, said Dennis Sabourin, executive director of the National Association for PET Container Resources.
