Sep. 6--PORT LAVACA -- The first question Rance Whitaker asked after going through three days of surgery was, "When can I play baseball again?" While Whitaker was worried about playing baseball, his family was more concerned about his ability to walk.
"The look on the doctor's face after the surgery was horrifying," said Richard Whitaker, Rance's father and the athletic director and head football coach at Calhoun. "He said he had never seen anything like it in his life."
