As part of its "Get Gephardt" consumer assistance feature, KUTV in Salt Lake City featured a member of Mountain America Credit Union who was unable to stop her account from being debited by a local distributor for Direct TV. Despite her protests, the member was being debited $19.23 each month. A CU representative said there was nothing it could do unless the member cancelled her checking account. The consumer advocate claimed to have gotten the problem resolved with Direct TV.
