Sep. 7--ALBANY -- A 15-year-old Albany High School student charged with the city's first murder of 2007 denied any role in the slaying -- and told police he was nearly caught in the crossfire, court papers revealed Thursday.

Nahjaliek McCall of Green Street also told a probation officer he was "best friends" with the victim, Shahied Oliver, 15, and said he was shaken by his death, according to a statement filed in Albany County Court.

McCall was arrested after giving detectives varying accounts about the night of the murder -- including a visit with a 17-year-old girl he later admitted does not exist, court papers said.
