Sep. 7--DARIEN -- A new study proposes dramatic changes for the state's highway rest areas and service plazas, but residents and lawmakers last night wanted to know where the money for these improvements will come from.
During a public meeting at Darien Town Hall, state Department of Transportation officials discussed more than $400 million worth of upgrades and changes, including new facilities, more truck parking and a possible over-the-highway service plaza on Interstate 95 in Fairfield.
The proposals are conceptual and there are no formal plans to build anything, DOT officials said.
