With the growth in the Coast Guard's mission set since 9/11, having personnel and assets deployed to Iraq, and discussions beginning on the Coast Guard's presence in the Arctic region, the service's top official is questioning whether the Coast Guard is the right size.
"Do we have enough Coast Guard to do what the country needs? I will tell you we are getting to the point right now where we need to have a discussion about whether or not the Coast Guard is the right size," Adm. Thad Allen told Defense Daily in a recent interview.
