Sep. 8--Two Contra Costa residents were among six people honored this week as "Local Heroes" at KQED-TV in San Francisco.
The celebration was held Thursday at the public television station's studios as part of Latino Heritage Month, which features programming with Latino themes throughout September. KQED, Kaiser Permanente and Wells Fargo Bank were co-sponsors.
Tony Ramirez has been a teacher at Dover Elementary School in San Pablo since 1990; today he teaches health and nutrition through cooking and gardening. He is a promoter of Latino culture and dual-language proficiency.
