Sep. 8--The 1.455 millage rate that Destin's City Council adopted this week is the lowest in the state, Councilor Sam Seevers says.
The council voted unanimously at Tuesday's meeting to adopt the millage rate and the $22 million budget, including some changes proposed over the past month. The councilors will take a second vote at the Sept. 17 meeting before the rate and the budget become law.
The changes include cutting Destin's contract for police services with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office from $1.4 to $1.3 million, and increasing the amount of debt the city will pay off this year.
