Sep. 9--PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Republican Fred Thompson of Tennessee is starting his bid to win the nation's first 2008 presidential primary "on the wrong foot" and with a poorly organized campaign, New Hampshire's top Republican official said.
State GOP Chairman Fergus Cullen said Mr. Thompson's late entry into the race may hurt his campaign.
"The best activists, the people you want to get involved ... are already committed to other candidates," he said. "I would have to describe myself as skeptical that he has enough time to build a grass-roots organization here."
