With serious issues confronting the nursing profession, educators from each level of nursing education have decided to work together to address and resolve issues related to the preparation and continued development of the nursing workforce. In July 2006 the first of a series of nursing summits was held at Oklahoma City University (OCU). Dr. Marvel Williamson, Dean of the College of Nursing at OCU chaired this first historic summit. The "tag line" for the nursing summits became Developing a Statewide Strategy for Nursing Education, and one of the exciting outcomes is the Institute for Oklahoma Nursing Education or IONE.
