WASHINGTON, April 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Advisory Panel today recommended an approval with conditions to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Nucleus 22 Channel Cochlear Implant System to be released for use with a broader range of adults. The recommendation, if accepted, could provide thousands of severe-to- profoundly hearing impaired adults, who receive marginal benefit from hearing aids, with the option of a cochlear implant. The Nucleus 22 is a surgically implanted device that bypasses the damaged parts of the inner ear to allow recipients the possibility to hear sound and speech.
