TOKYO, Sept 10 Asia Pulse - In an attempt to continue manufacturing key products in Japan, Canon Inc. (TSE:7751) will spend 80 billion yen (US$708 million) to construct a highly automated toner cartridge factory with more than twice the per-worker productivity of its existing operations, The Nikkei learned Friday.
Production at the new factory, located in Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, is expected to begin next August.
Toner cartridges and other printer and copier consumables are one of the top moneymakers for Canon, which forecasts a pretax profit of nearly 800 billion yen in fiscal 2007.
