Sep. 11--Bill Proenza, ousted director of the National Hurricane Center, is returning to his old job as head of the Southern Region of the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas, effective Sept. 23.
It's a post he held for nine years before being hired in January to run the hurricane center -- and forced to leave six months later amid controversy.
Now he will oversee 950 employees in 47 weather offices in 10 states, including Florida. He will earn $158,735 a year, just as he did at the hurricane center, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration officials said Monday.
