Sep. 11--From his perch at the Hollywood offices of 99 Jamz, part-time DJ Antoine "Toine the Don" Edwards has an up-close view of rap's latest battle royale.
The contenders are New York's 50 Cent, the ex-drug dealer whose transition to superstardom nearly ended in a hail of bullets, and Chicago's Kanye West, the brash college dropout who Dixie Chick'd President Bush. Both are multi-million-sellers with new CDs out today, and the stakes are theoretically sky-high: 50 Cent has said he will stop making solo albums if West outsells him on their first day of dueling releases.
