Sep. 12--Many Jews and Muslims are about to observe the start of their faiths' respective sacred seasons at the same time -- for the third straight year. The unusual calendar coincidence will occur at sunset today.
Jews will mark the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the religious new year that begins their High Holy Days. Muslims will begin their holy month of Ramadan.
Both religious traditions teach that these are times of special prayer and other rituals, and of contemplation that should focus the believers on their relationships with God and other people.
