MIAMI _ The would-be mother had reached her expected final day of fertility treatment. Just one more shot.
But the news from that morning's ultrasound and hormone tests was that she would need another day on a fertility drug called Metrodin.
Ordinarily, one call to a pharmacy would secure the dose. But not this time. After an hour of phoning all over Broward and Palm Beach counties, the Fort Lauderdale woman came up empty.
``The doctor is telling you to `Take this now,' but it may not be available,'' says the 32-year-old nurse, a patient of Dr. David Hoffman in Margate, Fla.
