Vatican City -- In October, Pope Benedict will beatify almost 500 Spanish Civil War victims killed by anarchists and communists solely because of their Catholic faith. They consist of two bishops, 24 priests, 469 lay Church members, two deacons and a seminarian.
Some 6500 priests, nuns and monks were murdered by the "Republicans" during the 1936-1939 Spanish Civil war out of sheer hatred of the Catholic Church. None of them were combatants in the war. The "Republicans" were defeated by the "Nationalists" of-General Francisco Franco.
