MISSION and vision statements were "useless and unnecessary", especially in the public sector where mandates were clearly defined, strategist Tony Manning said yesterday.
Speaking at the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers' conference at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban, Manning said that senior people in organisations might need documents like mission and vision statements, but these documents did not give much direction or guidance.
Instead, he said, concise and clear strategy documents should be written to guide organisations.
