Sep. 12--GUILFORD COUNTY -- Young at-risk mothers should seek medical attention as soon as possible if they want to save their babies.
That's the message health officials found in the county's 2006 increase in infant deaths.
More than 60 Guilford County babies died before their first birthdays last year, health officials reported last week. That was eight more than in 2005, mostly because of premature and multiple births.
While the county infant mortality rate increased to 10.6 deaths per 1,000 births, North Carolina's 2006 infant rate was 8.1, the lowest in the state's history and an 8 percent drop from 8.8 in 2004 ...
